REAL LIFE

Hold On

By Mayra B., age 16, California

The feeling of being trapped is unbearable. I'm talking about suffocating under all your problems and drowning with no idea how to resolve them. As much as you might think you can't hold on, I'm pretty sure you can.

I like to think of it this way: Whenever you feel like you're slipping from the rope, tie a knot and hold on tight. There are many people like you with ordinary lives having the same problems or even worse. There are kids with no parents, families without homes, and so on. Reflect on these things and surely you will realize that you're not alone in your pain. Someone out there is going through the same situation, thinking the same things. Remember what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger.

I come from a torn up family, and I saw myself struggling to continue, but I was strong. I found the strength I needed to carry myself to where I am now. These so-called "bad experiences" aren't so bad at all. It's experiences like these that mold you into who you are. It's up to you to make the best out of them.

Nothing is ever guaranteed in this world. So next time cry it out and then smile. You don't have time to waste in a deep depression. The next time you feel like you can no longer continue, remember all those people who need you.

Take my thoughts into consideration. Make the best out of them.
