Playdough?! NO WAY!

By Cara, age 13, California

So I have this friend, right? He's an amazing person, a great friend! But his parents practically raised him in a padded room under a microscope! Because of this he missed out on some of the best things childhood has to offer ... one of these being ... being ... Playdough!!

His parents always feared that he might eat it and get sick, mash it into the carpets, or decorate the dog with it. For me, all three kept me a happy little kid! When I heard the story, I have to admit, I almost cried. Poor kid!

But clever little me came to le rescue! I looked up how to make Playdough, and later that day we were both rolling in the dough ... literally! For all you out there who were never allowed to play with Playdough, or those of you who did and want reminisce, here's the recipe:

Note: Please check each ingredient before starting. If you are allergic to any of the ingredients, something tells me this might not be the craft for you :]

Cooked Playdough

3 cups flour
1.5 cups salt
6 tsp cream of tarter
3 tbsp oil
3 cups water
You can also add color dye to make it pretty.

First pour all the ingredients into a pot. Once you've got it all together, keep stirring it over medium heat until it seems to be coming together in a ball. Make sure the Playdough is at a cool temperature, then knead it until the texture matches the store bought Playdough. This could take up to three minutes.

After you finish playing with it, store it in a plastic container. It should last up to 3 months. Woot! Thanks for reading!

♥ Cara

p.s. My friend and I had tons of fun playing with it! As soon as I showed him how to make a Playdough mustache and unibrow (NERDS!) he really got into it!
