Getting & Staying Organized

By Jessica, age 15, Mississippi

Being or getting organized isn't always the easiest thing for some people ... like me ... But there is hope for you yet!

Time

If you're serious about getting organized then make the time. It may take more time than you planned, but if you at least get started, then you're on your way! It may take an hour for some, while only 30 minutes for others.

Clean

It doesn't matter if it's your backpack or your room. You need to clean it out. It means putting trash in the garbage can and the rest of your stuff in other piles or stacks.

Sort and Place

Here's the part that may take up most of your time, but you can have fun doing it. You can always make or buy storage. Tip: Decorated shoe boxes are great for storage if you're looking for that extra "custom" look.

Where Has All the Time Gone?

Time to organize your time! The best thing to use is a planner. Nowadays they're super cute! But you might say you don't do enough activities to have a planner. But you should realize you might forget to do a project or do your homework. Having a planner is always good for reminders!

Sometimes schools have enough money to give students a planner, so put it to good use. You never know what might improve by knowing exactly what you have to do each day!

Keep It Up

Every year I organize my room right before school so I start off the year with a clean streak. It keeps my grades high all year long when I know what I have to do and I don't forget to do it. Everyone gets off track, but it's never too late to clean and sort it. It just takes some time.

Good luck!
