SDM Writing Team
Sweet Designs is looking for committed writers with the writing skill and passion to regularly submit fresh, interesting material to Sweet Designs Magazine. By "regularly" we mean at least once a month. SDM offers writers the opportunity to see their work professionally edited and read by a worldwide audience. (Our primary demographic is teenage girls and young adult women.) Please note that we do not offer compensation for submissions.
Applicants: please submit a writing sample - an original article related to one of the topic areas listed below. Preferably submit something previously unpublished which SDM can use in the near future, or you may something you've already written for your web site or blog (please include direct link).
Choose from any of these topic areas, bearing in mind that, if you're accepted, you may also submit in other categories:
FASHION & BEAUTY
Do you know fashion? Think you can write about the latest trends in apparel and style, hair and makeup? Or, do you prefer new designers or have your own original fashion ideas? Can you offer tips and tricks, do's and don'ts? How about reviewing beauty products you totally love (or were disappointed in)? Most articles in this category will require photos and captions.REAL LIFE
Perhaps your passion is to write about teen and young adult lifestyle issues - family, school, dating, friendships, relationships, volunteer and extracurricular activities, self-esteem, substance abuse, politics, opinion, and so on.HEALTH
Here we're looking for articles on healthy eating habits (including creative recipes), fun exercise ideas, and teen and young adult health issues, including depression and disorders.ENTERTAINMENT
Want to be an entertainment critic? Think you know what's worth reading, watching, or listening to? Who's hot and who's not? Music, TV, film, books, sports, websites, etc. - feature articles and reviews.FUN STUFF
Does your talent lie in DIY, humor, original fiction, poetry, unique games, or party, gift, and other fun ideas? How about projects, crafts, fashions, or accessories you create yourself and can show others how to make too?COLLEGE
Writing about college life and issues, or preparing for college may be "just the beat" if you're in university or soon will be. (Note: College related articles are generally labeled as REAL LIFE: COLLEGE.)ADVICE
Starting in 2010, advice columnists are recruited from our staff of regular writers, as needed. If you think you have the gift to help others with their issues, please note this in your application for future consideration.Important Notes
Please note that serving with the Sweet Designs Magazine Team is on a volunteer basis. SDM Team members should not expect compensation for their service.
For writers who attain Gold Star status (awarded upon publication of at least 10 feature articles or 25 poems, representing about one year of quality magazine submissions), I will personally write a letter of recommendation (upon request), usable for your college, graduate school, job, or internship application process.
If you are selected for the Sweet Designs Magazine Team, I will contact you via email.
