Trashcan Phoenix
By Carly, age 18, Ohio
Life is like a phoenix. You crash and burn painfully in a million pieces and then a beautiful being is reborn through the wreckage.
You're a travesty in this joke of a world.
With the bat of an eyelash,
You change yet again.
Is this what we've come to?
Skin over soul, brawn over brain?
You're a travesty in this joke of a world.
Toting an overbearing darkness within your ignorance.
Void of light, void of hope,
I am devoured.
But clarity lies within the depths.
Crystal clear is the blackened soul.
Charred and burned, f***ed and broken.
Tossed into the trash,
This destruction brings forth new life.
Tossed aside,
Outcasts have the best view.
The eyes and ears of a brewing revolution.
We see better in the dark.
You only see as far as your mirror will allow.
Broken? You've fixed me.
Soaring high, wings a blaze,
A fall from your grace,
A leap in the right direction.
