REAL LIFE: COLLEGE

Get Scholarships!

One thing many of us question when applying to colleges is how we're going to pay for it. Money isn't always the most available thing, and when it comes to getting an education, money could be the reason you go or don't go to college. But college is the next step in life and there are ways to get money for your college education. We like to call these ways "scholarships".

Scholarships are usually pretty easy ways of getting money. You can check in with your high school guidance counselor; they usually have a few local scholarships you can apply for. Most require an essay and/or a little bit of information about who you are as a person.

But what do you do when you've applied for all the scholarships offered at your high school? Hope you get some money out of it?

No. You keep applying. The more money, the better. There are other ways of getting scholarships. Don't forget, we live in the 21st century and there is a wonderful tool called the internet.

For two years, I have been a member at Fastwebs.com. Fastwebs is probably one of the best scholarship websites I have seen. All you have to do is sign up, fill in some information - background information, activities, and what kind of major you want or the colleges you are interested in. Even if you don't know your major, you can still get scholarships open to anyone and everyone.

Once you fill in your "profile" on Fastwebs, it will take into account everything that you put in. If you say you are interested in majoring in Earth Science, you will receive scholarship information almost daily for Earth Science majors. You will also receive basic scholarship info for any college and any major.

Scholarship applications can involve anything from the classic essay to sending in a video of yourself singing your favorite song. They have so many scholarship options available; you will definitely find something you will like. And sometimes all it takes is a few minutes, or an hour at most. Fill in the scholarship application, write an essay, send in a video, and move on to the next scholarship in your Fastwebs inbox.

I still get e-mails daily about new scholarships waiting in my Fastwebs inbox. Just because you are in college now doesn't mean you can't still apply for scholarships! Apply away! You will not regret it.

Good luck to all you college bound ladies (and those already in college). Win some money!
