My New Year's Resolution

By Mckayla, age 15, Canada

What is a New Year's Resolution? A New Year's resolution is a commitment that an individual makes to a project or the reforming of a habit, often a lifestyle change. Most people can commit to a New Year's resolution throughout the whole year. Others can try to complete it but give up only a week or two into the new year. Most people make resolutions that will improve their lifestyles or habits.

I can honestly say that I've made many New Year's resolutions throughout the years, but not one has been kept. By the time you're reading this it will be 2010. This year I have created a resolution to benefit my lifestyle. I have to keep it.

I've grown up as a paranoid person, and I can honestly say that I've let fear take over my life. Everything scared me, and it still does. Certain things scare me, or make me paranoid, more than others. I worry about almost everything, and I'm almost "over cautious" with stuff. If I could choose whether to be more carefree and not worry about things over being the most paranoid person ever, I would. But since the world is imperfect, I don't have the choice of just quickly changing. I have to take the time and make the commitment to change my lifestyle, since being over paranoid can turn into something serious.

This isn't a huge resolution. I'm sure people have made bigger and harder ones to complete. If you think about it mine isn't hard; it's simple, right? Being over paranoid affects my lifestyle. Sooner or later it could one day lead to certain illnesses such as real, clinical Paranoia, which is an illness caused from being paranoid or having anxiety. It can cause stress too, which isn't good for the body.

So how am I going to complete this resolution by the end of the year? Well, first off, I have to convince myself that not everything is negative, and that some things are fun, and I don't have to be so paranoid and worrisome over it. Second of all, I have to stop overreacting to little things. And third, realize that life is something you can only live once, and you have to have fun. By the end of 2010 I hope to have a different perspective of things.

If you have a New Year's resolution stick with it. Especially if it will benefit the way you live. I wish you all a Happy New Year!
