Exes and Such
By Anne, age 19, Florida
I find myself spiraling again,
but this time it isn't any of the usual suspects.
It's a new foe altogether.
She isn't pretty
but then again, neither was I...
She has the upper hand while I sit here
geographically undesirable...
I'm not sure if I care more that she has him
or that he has her.
My insides have been upturned and shaken
and now sit, swirling, attempting to settle.
Life never was a color-by-numbers of a famous image,
"Set aside the instructions and paint a masterpiece!" they said.
But SHE is waiting for me to color in all the sixes
so she may claim that I have cheated and declare herself superior.
And why shouldn't she?
After all she has won the prize.
But it seems that she hasn't noticed that she already filled in all the spaces,
while I have moved on to a new page.
I wish her luck erasing the marks I have left on him,
but I secretly hope she fails since she won't be the first...
