Her Sad, Sad Story

By Genny, age 18, Malta

she stood there alone,
wishing for

love

companions

and freedom.

will she ever be loved again?
will she ever gain their trust again?
will she ever be free again?

thoughts of this kind were going through her head.
she thought of what she once had and what she now possessed.
who was this girl now wearing black?
soaking herself in tears,
cut wrists & neck?

why did she have to suffer so much
when things seemed to be going so well?
why did the tables have to turn again
& send her back to hell?

the crowd stood witness to it all,
all through the summer and fall.
winter came and finally swept them all away,
hoping that none of them would be back to stay.

she was left alone at night,
a night where no sky would shine bright.
the night that took all their lives away
& left her wondering...
should she go herself,
or maybe stay?

but most of all with thoughts going through her head
she wondered about one thing
when sleeping in her bed...
what would she do now that she was so alone
with no one to love, no friends, no home?

she finally decided on what to do.
what if she joined them all now too?

she spread her arms out wide,
looked at the sky up above.
rain suddenly began pouring,
massive winds,
a storm came through,
a flash of lightning was all it took.
you could look all around you
and nothing was left
except a book...
in it was the saying:
"Now I am gone too
& if you ever get to read this,
just remember...
I died for you."
