Crossroads

I've taken as much as I can,
it's all getting too much.
I want to slow down,
but now is not the time;
it probably never will be, if it can't be now.
I seem to be living my own life but the terms are not mine.
The board is set, the pieces moving and the rules keep changing.
The scenery is too fine,
paths to tread are legion yet the choice for now is not mine.
I want to put away this pressure, breathe the free air.
