The Little Black Skirt

By Kenzi, age 19, California

Lately I've had this obsession with little black skirts. Most girls veer toward the "little black dress" but that minute piece of clothing is becoming, well, too cliché. After moving to a new city and going out on the weekends to explore some of the city's culture, I've noticed that almost every college girl here owns at least one "little black skirt," and they wear it at least once during the weekend. The good thing about this item is that you can wear it pretty much everywhere and it has a variety of uses. Professional, casual, night out on the town, or just plain cute.

This is the exact skirt I own. Available for $16.50 at wetseal.com or your local store.

I owned one black skirt for the longest time. It was a high wasted skirt that I felt held too many limits on what I really wanted. Although I wore it all the time, I needed something that could do more for me and my body type. I'm a girl with wide hips (i.e. I have love handles). They're lovely, but not when I'm trying to look flattering in something tight. Then I discovered the manna of all skirts. My little black skirt has an elastic waistband; it's stretchy, but still tight enough to hold everything in. Perfect for any girl. It looks great with loose shirts of all kinds and still looks good with tight shirts as well. Dress it up with a blazer and heels or dress it down with a cardigan and flats. One can literally wear this item with anything and still look like a fashionista.

Skirt available for $62.00 at bluefly.com. This skirt is from Free People, but Bluefly sells it for a discounted price.
