Quick Winter Update!

Oh yes, it really is time for winter! Yes, I mean the works - snow, ice, sleet, hail, and whatever other cruel punishments winter has for your specific state or country. Here, in Indiana, winter is all about the snow and ice, which in my opinion is ONLY fun when you go sledding and/or play outside in the fluffy white stuff, making snowmen out of it. Or, you can always get back at your family or friends by balling it up and hurling it at 'em. But, that's just my opinion. Anyone has the right to be a snow or winter hater. I mostly am, minus the few fun things mentioned above, but that by no means guarantees that it won't happen, every year, like clockwork.

The other day I was walking into a store, clothed in that handy Columbia and a hoodie underneath, complete with boots and jeans, looking around at all the other people. I saw some in about the same attire, some in even more attire (boots, hats, gloves, and ear muffs), and then I saw the few people still in denial. You can always tell who they are, still rocking their flip flops or mandals (man sandals), or maybe even with just a t-shirt on - no jacket - just a tee and some jeans. Or even the guys who are either really in denial or just don't care about their leg hair freezing off, since they are still wearing those darn cargo shorts! It amazes me every time!

I go to school and about 40% of the male population there are still wearing shorts and their mandals! I just don't know how they can trick themselves into thinking it's still warm enough to be showing all that leg! I always wonder, are they secretly freezing but won't admit it? Or, have they just smartly trained their body that it's not freezing cold, but warm instead? I have even asked a few guy friends why they're still dressing like it's 80 degrees outside, and I found that most just shrug it off and say they don't really care what the temperature is. They just grab something out of their closet in the morning, still half asleep. A few simply say, "I didn't feel like wearing jeans," which stuns me the most. If I stop and really think, "hmmm, it's the middle of November yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that - it's ehhh, about 45 degrees outside, so what should I wear?" The first thought is most definitely not shorts! Or even anything that doesn't include a jacket, warm cardigan, hoodie, long sleeves or pant legs, something that covers my skin so it doesn't turn into sleet when I walk outside!

I didn't mean to rant and talk down to you guys out there, just to perhaps shame a little common sense, ya know? Maybe tomorrow, try wearing pants ... Anywaaaaaay, on to some actual girls' fashion! I'm just dropping by to remind you girls of a few little winter updates on the trend scene. We previously explored the wonderfulness of a fleece jacket and such (still using mine, quite often!), but now we'll delve into a few more glamorous winter items!

We'll start with the bottom - shoes! Boots will always be 'in' in my book, but the trend for now is booties! While an adorable pair of knee-high leather boots will forever be in style, and plus, super warm, right now if you'd like to stay hip with the trend, booties are definitely where it's at. I've seen the cutest ones this season too! Furry ones, printed ones, ones with bright buckles and adornments! Plus, they are everywhere! From plain black leather ones to high heeled knit ones! My personal faves are the low heeled leather ones, although I have been eyeing a pair of flat black leather ones, perfect for an outfit with bright tights and a skirt, which is appropriate in the cold weather, as long as you have the semi-thick and warm tights and your feet are completely covered!

Available for $27.80 at www.forever21.com or your local Forever 21 store.

Available for $34.99 at www.payless.com or your local Payless store.

Next on the list is a new personal favorite, fur vests! Now I know, sounds quite odd and somewhat cruel (no worries - only faux fur vests for me!) But I just love how different they are! I mean, who needs a regular vest when you can get a soft, fuzzy one!? I have fallen in love with them, as if they were a teddy bear I sleep with every night (and you could do that, since they are soft and furry; however, your parents just might question your sanity a bit ...) They are the perfect little add-on to an outfit that needs a little somethin' to spice it up :)

Available for $38.99 at www.charlotterusse.com or your local Charlotte Russe store.

Available for $35.00 (on sale) at oldnavy.gap.com or your local Old Navy store.

The last (but, of course, not least) item is a cute little accessory I believe every girl should have - an adorable knit hat! One that can coordinate with any outfit (like black, gray, or cream) and maybe one that's a bright, fun color that you can use to add a splash to a rather boring, monochromatic outfit. Let it be light too, not a hat too heavy that will mess up your hair or anything. Just a simple little knit or even crocheted hat that will cover your ears and keep them warm, while also adding a subtle winter wonderland spin to your look.

Available for $9.50 at www.charlotterusse.com or your local Charlotte Russe store. Also available in a turquoise color blend.

Cable hat vailable for $12.99 at www.target.com or your local Target store. Also available in gray, blue, black, and white.

Now that we've gone through just a few cute, simple things to think about adding to your winter wardrobe, remember to please dress warmly (beat that winter cold!), but that does not mean you have to compromise your style!

Happy winter, guys. Love ya! :)
